Organizing Your Group

~1 min read

A well-organized Rust group outperforms a larger disorganized one. Assign roles based on each player's strengths:

  • Leader: Makes strategic decisions (when to raid, base location, resource allocation). Should be the most experienced player.
  • Farmers: Focus on gathering resources, running scrap routes, and keeping the base stocked. Need to be efficient and low-profile.
  • PvP players: Handle roaming, monument runs, and raid defense. Should have the best aim and game sense.
  • Builder: Designs and maintains the base, sets up electricity, and handles upgrades. Needs knowledge of building mechanics.

For groups of 4-8, each player should have a primary and secondary role. Communication is critical -- use Discord or in-game voice chat with push-to-talk.

Compound Base Design

~1 min read

Group bases should be compounds rather than single massive structures. A compound consists of:

  1. Main base: Large honeycombed structure with the TC, main loot, and sleeping quarters
  2. Loot rooms: Separate structures inside the compound walls for storing overflow resources
  3. External TCs: Placed around the perimeter to extend building privilege and block enemy builds
  4. Shooting floor: An elevated platform for defending against raids
  5. Gate system: High external walls with a garage door gate for vehicle access

Key advantages of compounds: - Spreading loot across multiple structures means raiders cannot get everything by raiding one building - External TCs prevent raiders from building siege towers or raid bases nearby - Multiple structures create cross-fire zones where auto turrets can cover each other

3

Loot Management

~1 min read

Group loot management prevents drama and keeps everyone productive:

  1. Shared loot system: All farmed resources go into a shared storage area. Individuals can keep personal kits but sulfur and high-value items belong to the group.
  2. Kit system: Pre-make PvP kits in kit boxes near the exit. Each kit should have: weapon, ammo, meds, armor, building plan, and hammer. Ready-to-grab kits let players respond to threats instantly.
  3. Raid fund: Designate a storage box specifically for raid supplies. All sulfur goes here until the group decides to raid.
  4. Upkeep duty: Rotate who is responsible for filling the TC. Track upkeep cost and divide resource farming evenly.
  5. Research priority: Discuss as a group what to research first. Prioritize items that benefit everyone (weapons, armor, explosives) over personal preferences.
4

Communication and Callouts

~1 min read

Clear communication wins fights and prevents team kills:

  1. Map grid callouts: Learn to reference locations by grid square (e.g., 'enemy at K12' or 'contact near Dome')
  2. Distance and direction: Call contacts by compass bearing and distance ('two players south, 200 meters')
  3. Engagement calls: The leader decides when to engage. 'Hold fire' and 'weapons free' keep the group coordinated.
  4. Status updates: Call out when you are healing, reloading, or repositioning. 'I am low, backing off' helps teammates cover you.
  5. Death calls: Immediately announce where you died and what the enemy is wearing. 'Down at the rock, two full metal AK players.'

Avoid cluttering comms with unnecessary chatter during fights. Keep callouts short and factual.

5

Raid Coordination

~1 min read

Group raids are where clan play shines. A well-coordinated raid is nearly unstoppable:

  1. Scouting: Send one player to observe the target for 30-60 minutes. Note player count, activity patterns, and base layout.
  2. Raid base: Build your raid base 1-2 grid squares away. Stock it with kits, explosives, and building materials.
  3. Timing: Raid when the target has the most players online for an online raid, or during off-peak hours for an offline raid.
  4. Roles during raid: Assign a demo player (places explosives), roof watch (prevents escape), flank watch (watches for counter-raiders), and loot runners (bring loot back to raid base).
  5. Counter-raid defense: Always have 1-2 players watching for counter-raiders. They will come -- explosions attract everyone within several grid squares.
  6. Extraction: Plan your loot extraction route in advance. Use horses or vehicles to move loot quickly from the raid site to your main base.
