Maximize your scrap income in Rust. The best routes for road runs, monument loot, recycling values, and efficient farming strategies.
Scrap is the most important currency in Rust. You need it for:
A solo player needs approximately 2,000-5,000 scrap per wipe to research essential items. A group needs significantly more. Efficient scrap farming is critical for early-game progression.
The simplest scrap farming method is running along roads and breaking barrels. Each barrel gives 2 scrap plus random components. Road crates give 5-10 scrap plus items.
Optimal route: Find a section of road between two Tier 1 monuments with recyclers (like Gas Station and Supermarket). Run back and forth, breaking every barrel and opening every crate. Collect components and recycle them at the monument.
Expected yield: 150-250 scrap per 20-minute run depending on barrel density and luck. This is the safest and most reliable method for new players.
Recycling components is where most of your scrap comes from. Key recycler values:
High value (always keep): - Rifle Body: 25 scrap + 2 HQM + 100 metal fragments - SMG Body: 15 scrap + 2 HQM + 100 metal fragments - Semi Auto Body: 15 scrap + 2 HQM + 75 metal fragments - Tech Trash: 20 scrap + 1 HQM - CCTV Camera: 15 scrap + 2 HQM + 5 tech trash
Medium value: - Road Signs: 5 scrap + 1 HQM + 50 metal fragments - Sheet Metal: 8 scrap + 100 metal fragments + 1 HQM - Gears: 10 scrap + 13 metal fragments - Metal Spring: 10 scrap + 1 HQM
Low value (recycle only if nearby): - Rope: 1 scrap + 15 cloth - Sewing Kit: 2 scrap + 10 cloth - Metal Blade: 2 scrap + 15 metal fragments
Always prioritize recycling Rifle Bodies and Tech Trash. A single Launch Site run can yield 5-8 high-value components worth 100+ scrap when recycled.
Different monuments provide different scrap yields. Here is the approximate scrap per run (including recycled components):
Tier 3 (best scrap/run, highest risk): - Launch Site: 400-600 scrap per run - Military Tunnels: 300-500 scrap per run - Oil Rig (Small): 300-500 scrap per run - Oil Rig (Large): 500-800 scrap per run
Tier 2 (moderate scrap, moderate risk): - Airfield: 150-300 scrap per run - Dome: 150-250 scrap per run - Train Yard: 100-200 scrap per run - Sewer Branch: 100-150 scrap per run
Tier 1 (low scrap, low risk): - Supermarket: 50-100 scrap per run - Gas Station: 30-80 scrap per run - Lighthouse: 20-50 scrap per run
For maximum efficiency, chain multiple monuments together. Run Gas Station -> Road -> Dome -> Road -> Airfield, recycling at each stop.
Gambling at Bandit Camp: The Wheel of Fortune has a small house edge. Betting on 1x (50/50 chance) is the safest gambling option. Do not gamble what you cannot afford to lose, but lucky streaks can multiply your scrap quickly.
Fishing: Fishing villages allow you to catch fish and sell them for scrap. With a good rod, you can earn 100-200 scrap per hour. Boring but very safe.
Underwater diving: Sunken crates near coastlines contain loot and components. Requires diving gear. Less contested than surface monuments.
Train tunnels: Work carts travel through underground tunnels with loot spawns. Scientists guard junctions but the loot is decent and few players bother with tunnels.
Pure Scrap Tea: If you have a tea farm, Pure Scrap Tea increases barrel scrap yield by 50%. This means barrels give 3 scrap instead of 2, which adds up enormously during long road runs.
