AK-47 | Redline — the same finish from Factory New to Battle-Scarred
AK-47 | Redline has a 0.10–0.70 float range, so it never appears in conditions outside that band — a real example of why not all skins drop in all wears.
Every CS2 skin has a float value between 0.00 and 1.00 that determines its wear condition and visual appearance. Lower float values mean less wear and generally higher prices. The float is permanently set when the skin drops or is unboxed and cannot be changed.
The float value directly controls how many scratches, scuffs, and worn areas appear on the skin. A Factory New skin at 0.001 will look virtually perfect, while a Battle-Scarred skin at 0.99 will show heavy wear. However, the actual visual difference varies per skin — some skins barely change across floats while others show dramatic differences.
Within the same wear condition, lower float values command premium prices. A 0.001 float is worth significantly more than a 0.069 float even though both are Factory New. The lowest known float for a particular skin can be extremely valuable to collectors.
Each skin has a minimum and maximum float range. For example, the AWP | Asiimov only drops in Field-Tested (0.18), Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred conditions — it cannot exist in Factory New or Minimal Wear. The float range is determined by the skin's finish catalog entry.
When performing a Trade-Up Contract, the resulting skin's float is calculated from the average float of the 10 input skins. This means you can target specific float values by carefully selecting your input skins. This is how traders craft low-float or high-float skins for profit.

Always check the float value before buying — two skins of the same wear can look very different.
Factory New skins with float under 0.01 are called "low float" and carry significant premiums.
Some Battle-Scarred skins with very high float (0.99+) are also collectible and valuable.
Use the Steam inspect link to check a skin's exact float before purchasing on the market.
Float values have 14+ decimal places of precision — even tiny differences matter for collectors.
Trade-Up contracts let you craft specific float values by averaging your 10 input skins.
