In-depth guide to every major monument in Rust. Launch Site, Military Tunnels, Oil Rig, Dome, Airfield, and more. Loot tables, strategies, radiation requirements, and clearing routes.
Launch Site is the highest-tier monument in Rust, offering the best loot at the cost of extreme radiation, heavy scientist presence, and constant PvP pressure. It features the iconic rocket assembly building, multiple industrial structures, and open courtyards.
Radiation: Launch Site has the highest radiation of any monument. The main building interior reaches 30+ rads per second. A Hazmat Suit (provides 30% rad protection) is the minimum requirement. For comfortable looting without constant health drain, bring a full set of radiation-resistant clothing (Hazmat or rad suit + rad pills). Without protection, you will die within 30-60 seconds inside the main building.
Clearing route: Enter from the main gate on the road side. Clear the courtyard scientists (2-3 blue scientists). Move to the side buildings first to loot military crates and barrels. Then enter the main building through the ground floor entrance. Navigate up the interior stairwells, clearing scientists on each floor. The top floor contains the elite crate room accessed via keycard progression. There are typically 8-12 scientists throughout the monument.
Keycard puzzle: Launch Site features the full green-blue-red keycard progression. Start at the ground-floor green card reader, proceed to the blue card door on the second floor, and finish at the red card room on the upper floor. Each door requires a fuse plus the appropriate keycard. The red card room contains an Elite Crate with the best loot in the game (AK-47s, LR-300s, C4, rockets).
Loot summary: 1 Elite Crate (red card room), 3-4 military crates, 10+ regular crates, numerous barrel spawns. Total scrap value including recycled components: 400-600 per run. The Elite Crate can contain weapons worth 500+ scrap in direct value.
PvP considerations: Launch Site is the most contested monument on any server. Expect to encounter other players on virtually every run. Bring PvP-ready gear (rifle, armor, meds) and be prepared to fight before, during, and after your loot run. Many players camp the exits to intercept players leaving with Elite Crate loot.
Military Tunnels is an underground monument featuring narrow corridors, heavy scientists, and some of the best PvE loot in the game. It requires close-range weapons and careful clearing due to tight sightlines and ambush positions.
Location and access: Military Tunnels has two entrances -- a main entrance with a wide corridor and a side entrance near the railway tracks. The side entrance is less guarded but drops you into the middle of the tunnel system. The main entrance has 2-3 scientists outside and a more gradual approach.
Radiation: Moderate radiation inside (10-15 rads per second). A Hazmat Suit is recommended but not strictly required if you move quickly. Burlap clothing with a few rad reduction items works for quick runs.
Clearing route: Enter through the main entrance and clear the first room (2 scientists). Follow the main corridor to the junction. Left leads to the armory (blue card room), right leads to the storage area. Clear scientists in both directions -- there are 10-15 total throughout the tunnel system, including 3-4 heavy scientists near the armory.
Armory (blue card room): The armory is behind a blue keycard door and contains 2 Elite Crates and several military crates. This is the primary loot target. You need a green card to access the initial area, then a blue card for the armory itself. Bring a fuse and both keycards.
Weapon recommendations: Bring a close-range weapon (Thompson, MP5, shotgun) as the primary. The narrow corridors make long-range weapons like the Bolt Action impractical. A headlamp or flashlight attachment is extremely useful because some tunnel sections are very dark. Without light, scientists can ambush you from blind corners.
Loot summary: 2 Elite Crates (armory), 4-5 military crates, multiple regular crates and tool boxes. Total scrap value: 300-500 per run. The contained environment makes loot runs faster and more predictable than Launch Site, with less PvP exposure since fewer players venture underground.
The two Oil Rigs are offshore monuments that offer exceptional loot but require boat transportation and carry significant risk from both scientists and other players.
Small Oil Rig: Located offshore, requires a boat (motorboat, RHIB, or kayak) to reach. Contains approximately 10 normal scientists (150 HP each) across three levels. The hackable locked crate on the top deck is the main prize. Hacking triggers Chinook reinforcement waves of heavy scientists. Manageable for a solo player with a SAR and adequate medical supplies.
Large Oil Rig: Significantly more difficult. Contains 18+ heavy scientists (300 HP each) with better weapons and awareness. The hackable locked crate here drops the best loot in the game. Multiple Elite Crates are scattered across the structure. This monument is recommended for duos or trios minimum, with full metal armor and AK-47s.
Both Oil Rigs share common challenges: getting there requires fuel for your boat (bring 200+ low grade), the boat can be stolen or destroyed while you are clearing the rig, other teams often contest Oil Rig runs, and the Chinook reinforcements during the crate hack add another layer of difficulty.
Boat parking strategy: Park your boat on the side of the rig opposite the main ladder access. Other players typically board from the ladder side, so your boat is less likely to be found. Alternatively, use a diving tank to approach underwater and surface at the rig, leaving no visible boat to alert other players.
Extraction: After looting, leave immediately. Do not linger on the rig. The sound of gunfire and the Chinook helicopter attract every player with a boat on the server. Head directly to shore and move inland to your base. If you spot enemy boats approaching, consider jumping in the water with your loot and swimming to shore rather than fighting on the rig with your back to the ocean.
Loot comparison: Small Oil Rig yields 300-500 scrap per run including recycled components. Large Oil Rig yields 600-1200 scrap. The risk-reward ratio favors Small Oil for solo players and Large Oil for organized groups.
These three Tier 2 monuments provide consistent mid-game loot with moderate risk. They are the backbone of mid-wipe progression for most players.
Dome: A large industrial dome structure with scaffolding on the outside that allows players to climb to the top. The loot is distributed across the scaffolding levels and on top of the dome. No keycard is required. Radiation is minimal. The climb to the top takes about 60-90 seconds and is exposed, making you vulnerable to snipers. At the top, you find 2-3 military crates and several regular crates. Total scrap value: 150-250 per run. Dome is popular due to its simplicity -- no keycards, minimal radiation, fast looting.
Airfield: A large military airfield with hangars, a control tower, and runway areas. Features both green and blue keycard puzzles. The blue card room in Hangar 2 contains 2-3 military crates. Multiple regular crate spawns throughout the hangars and buildings. Radiation is low in outdoor areas, moderate inside buildings. Scientists patrol the runway area (4-6 total). Total scrap value: 150-300 per run. Airfield is excellent for blue keycard acquisition and consistent military crate farming.
Water Treatment Plant: An industrial water treatment facility with pipes, buildings, and elevated walkways. Features green and blue keycard puzzles. The blue card room on the upper floor of the main building contains military crates. Radiation is moderate in the main building. Scientists patrol the central area (4-5 total). The recycler is conveniently located near the entrance. Total scrap value: 100-250 per run. Water Treatment is valued for its recycler and central map position, making it a natural stop on road-running routes.
Chaining monuments: The most efficient farming routes chain multiple Tier 2 monuments together. For example: Dome (loot and recycle) -> Road run -> Airfield (loot, recycle, and keycard) -> Road run -> Water Treatment (loot and recycle). This circuit can yield 500-800 scrap in 30-40 minutes with manageable risk.
These Tier 1-2 monuments are the safest options for early-game progression and consistent scrap farming. They require minimal gear and have lower PvP exposure.
Sewer Branch: An underground sewer system accessed through manholes. Features both green and blue keycard puzzles in a compact layout. The green card room contains military crates and often spawns a blue keycard. The blue card room deeper in the sewer has an Elite Crate and sometimes a red keycard. Radiation is minimal. Scientists (2-3) patrol the underground corridors. This is the best monument for keycard progression because you can go from green to blue to potentially red in a single run. Total scrap value: 100-150 per run.
Train Yard: An abandoned railway maintenance facility with a large crane building, warehouses, and train cars. Features green and blue keycard puzzles in the tower building. Climbing the tower provides access to military crates and a potential red keycard. Radiation is low to moderate. Scientists (3-4) patrol the ground level. The elevated tower position gives defenders an advantage, making Train Yard a favorable PvP location. Total scrap value: 100-200 per run. The recycler is located inside the main warehouse.
Satellite Dish: A small monument with a large satellite dish array and a few buildings. No keycard puzzle, making it purely a loot-and-leave monument. Contains 2-3 military crates on the elevated platforms and several regular crates in the buildings. Radiation is minimal. Fewer scientists (1-2) make it very safe for early-game farming. Total scrap value: 75-150 per run. Satellite Dish is underrated because of its fast looting time (under 5 minutes per run) and low competition.
Early-game monument rotation: New players should focus on Sewer Branch and Satellite Dish for their first few hours. Both monuments have low risk, decent scrap yields, and teach the basics of monument running (scientist combat, crate looting, recycling). Once comfortable with these, progress to Train Yard and Water Treatment before attempting Dome or Airfield.
Understanding loot respawn mechanics lets you time your monument runs for maximum efficiency.
Crate respawn timers: - Regular crates (green and brown): Respawn every 8-12 minutes after being looted - Military crates: Respawn every 15-20 minutes after being looted - Elite crates: Respawn every 30-60 minutes after being looted - Hackable locked crates (Oil Rig, Cargo Ship): Respawn every 2 hours after being looted - Barrels: Respawn every 8-10 minutes in their spawn zones
Loot table highlights by crate type:
Regular crates contain: Components (rope, sewing kit, metal blade), basic tools, low-tier weapons (bow, crossbow, water pipe), and clothing. Scrap yield: 2-10 per crate plus recyclable components.
Military crates contain: Mid-tier weapons (Thompson, SAR, Python), mid-tier components (springs, gears, rifle bodies), medical supplies, and ammunition. Scrap yield: 10-25 per crate plus recyclable components.
Elite crates contain: High-tier weapons (AK-47, LR-300, Bolt Action, L96), explosives (C4, rockets), high-tier components (tech trash, CCTV cameras), and rare items. Scrap yield: 25-50 per crate plus recyclable components.
Optimal run timing: For Tier 2 monuments with 15-20 minute military crate respawns, you can run the same monument every 20-25 minutes for consistent returns. Chain two or three monuments together so that by the time you finish the circuit, the first monument has respawned its crates.
Server population impact: On high-population servers, crate spawn timers feel shorter because other players loot crates between your visits, triggering respawns. On low-population servers, crates may sit unlooted for extended periods. Adjust your farming routes based on server activity -- higher population means faster crate turnover but more PvP risk.
