Water Treatment Plant Overview

~2 min read

Water Treatment Plant is a mid-tier monument featuring industrial water processing facilities, multiple buildings, elevated walkways, and a keycard puzzle system. It is one of the most reliable Tier 2 monuments for consistent mid-game loot and keycard progression.

Layout: The monument consists of several large open-air structures connected by pipes, walkways, and ground-level roads. The main building is a multi-story industrial structure containing the blue keycard puzzle room. Surrounding buildings include pump stations, storage tanks, and maintenance sheds. A recycler is located near the monument entrance, making it convenient for immediate component recycling.

Radiation: Water Treatment has low to moderate radiation in outdoor areas (5-8 rads/second) and moderate radiation inside the main building (10-15 rads/second). A Hazmat Suit is recommended for comfortable exploration but not strictly required for quick outdoor runs. Basic clothing with some radiation resistance works for hit-and-run barrel farming around the monument perimeter.

Scientist spawns: 4-6 scientists patrol the monument. Two scientists typically guard the central area near the water tanks. One or two patrol the walkways on the upper level. One guards the area near the green card door, and another patrols near the blue card building. Scientists here are standard blue-uniformed types with 150 HP each, armed with pistols or SMGs.

Entry approaches: The monument has multiple entry points. The road entrance is the most common approach but also the most exposed. The back entrance through the pipe structures provides more cover. A third approach via the elevated walkways offers the high-ground advantage but exposes you to sniper fire from outside the monument. Choose your approach based on where you spot other players and scientists.

Water Treatment Puzzle Route

~2 min read

Water Treatment features both green and blue keycard puzzles. Completing both provides access to the monument's best loot and potentially a red keycard for use at higher-tier monuments.

Green card puzzle: 1. Find the green keycard reader on the door of the pump station building (the smaller building near the water tanks). 2. Insert a fuse in the fuse box located on the exterior wall of the same building. 3. Swipe the green keycard at the reader. 4. Inside the pump station, you find 1-2 military crates and sometimes a blue keycard spawn on a shelf or table.

Blue card puzzle: 1. Locate the main building (the largest multi-story structure). 2. The fuse box for the blue card puzzle is on the exterior wall near the ground-floor entrance. 3. Insert a fuse and enter the building. 4. Navigate upstairs via the internal stairwell or the external ladder. 5. The blue keycard reader is on the upper-floor door. 6. Swipe the blue card to access the loot room. 7. Inside: 2-3 military crates, potential weapon and armor spawns, and occasionally a red keycard.

Puzzle tips: - Bring at least 2 fuses (one for each puzzle). Fuses are consumed on use. - Clear all scientists before starting the puzzle. Being interrupted mid-puzzle by a scientist is dangerous in the confined building interiors. - Check the green card room first even if you already have a blue card. The extra military crate loot is worth the 30-second detour. - After completing both puzzles, immediately recycle any components at the monument recycler before heading home. This reduces the value of what you carry, making you a less attractive target.

Sewer Branch Complete Walkthrough

~2 min read

Sewer Branch is one of the most important early-game monuments in Rust. Its compact underground layout, low difficulty, and excellent keycard progression make it the ideal first monument for new and experienced players alike.

Surface layout: Sewer Branch has a small above-ground footprint consisting of a few industrial buildings and a manhole entrance. The surface area has barrel spawns and 1-2 regular crate spawns. One scientist patrols the surface area.

Underground layout: The main content is below ground, accessed through the manhole. The underground consists of a series of connected sewer tunnels and rooms. The layout is linear, making navigation straightforward.

Clearing the underground: 1. Enter through the manhole. Drop down into the main corridor. 2. Move through the first tunnel section, checking side rooms for crates. One scientist patrols this area. 3. Reach the green card door. Swipe your green keycard (fuse box is on the wall nearby). 4. Inside the green card room: 1 military crate, barrel spawns, and a high chance of a blue keycard spawn on the table. 5. Continue deeper to the blue card door (if you have a blue card). Another fuse is required. 6. The blue card room contains an Elite Crate and sometimes a red keycard. 7. Exit via the same manhole or through a secondary exit (some Sewer Branches have a back exit).

Total clearing time: 5-10 minutes for a complete run including both keycard rooms. This makes Sewer Branch one of the fastest monument runs in the game relative to loot value.

Gear requirements: Minimal. A Hunting Bow and 20 arrows are sufficient for killing the 2-3 scientists underground. Bring a flashlight or headlamp since some tunnel sections are dark. No radiation protection needed -- Sewer Branch has zero radiation.

Loot Tables and Crate Locations

~2 min read

Both monuments provide reliable loot that fuels mid-game progression. Understanding what spawns where helps you prioritize your clearing route.

Water Treatment loot summary: - Green card room: 1-2 military crates (mid-tier weapons, components, medical supplies). Blue keycard spawn (~50% chance). - Blue card room: 2-3 military crates (higher-tier weapons, rifle bodies, SMG bodies). Red keycard spawn (~25% chance). - Outdoor areas: 6-8 barrel spawns, 2-3 regular crates, 1-2 food crates. - Scientist drops: Each scientist drops 10-30 scrap, medical supplies, and ammunition. - Total scrap value per run: 150-300 scrap including recycled components.

Sewer Branch loot summary: - Surface: 3-5 barrel spawns, 1-2 regular crates. - Underground corridors: 2-3 regular crates, barrel spawns. - Green card room: 1 military crate, barrel spawns. Blue keycard (~60% chance). - Blue card room: 1 Elite Crate (AK, LR-300, C4, rockets possible). Red keycard (~30% chance). - Scientist drops: 2-3 scientists with standard drops. - Total scrap value per run: 100-250 scrap including recycled components.

Keycard progression value: The true value of these monuments extends beyond immediate loot. Sewer Branch's consistent blue keycard production feeds your progression to red keycard monuments (Launch Site, Military Tunnels). A single blue card from Sewer Branch enables a military crate run at Airfield or Train Yard, which produces a red card, which unlocks Elite Crates at Launch Site. This chain starts with a free green keycard pickup.

Respawn timers: Military crates at both monuments respawn every 15-20 minutes. Elite Crates in Sewer Branch blue card room respawn every 30-60 minutes. Plan return visits around these timers for maximum efficiency.

Best Approaches and Escape Routes

~2 min read

Surviving monument runs requires planning both your entry and exit routes. Getting ambushed while leaving with valuable loot is the most common way to lose a monument run's profit.

Water Treatment approaches: - Road approach (southeast): Most direct, follows the main road. High visibility but also high exposure. Use if you have checked the area and confirmed no enemies. - Pipe approach (north): Enter through the large pipe structures on the north side. More cover, less visibility to road watchers. Good for stealth runs. - Walkway approach (west): Enter via the elevated walkways from the adjacent terrain. Provides high ground but exposes you on the walkway. Best with long-range weapons.

Water Treatment escape routes: - After looting, do not exit the same way you entered. Enemies may have heard your gunfire and set up an ambush. - Use the pipe structures on the opposite side of the monument for cover during extraction. - If heavily contested, circle wide around the monument perimeter rather than running straight to your base on the road.

Sewer Branch approaches: - The surface footprint is small, so there are limited approach options. Approach from the back side (away from the road) for stealth. - Check the surface for other players before entering the underground. Once below ground, you are committed -- there is limited escape if enemies follow you in.

Sewer Branch escape tactics: - After looting underground, listen at the manhole before exiting. Player footsteps on the surface are audible from below. - If you hear enemies above, wait 2-3 minutes. Impatient campers often leave. - Place a sleeping bag near the monument (hidden in bushes 50-100 meters away) before entering. If you die to campers, you respawn nearby with a chance to recover your loot. - Consider building a small 1x1 stash base within 1-2 minutes running distance. After looting the monument, deposit high-value items in the stash before making the longer run to your main base. This splits the risk.

General monument safety: Always vary your routes between runs. If you run the same monument repeatedly on the same path, observant enemies learn your pattern and set ambushes. Alternate between 2-3 different approach and exit routes.
